COMMERCIAL LOCATION SCOUT & MANAGER
PROFESSIONAL SERVING ALL OF CALIFORNIA AND THE OTHER 49 STATES
For more than two decades, I have provided leadership in Location Scouting & Management for high-profile commercial and new media campaigns, serving a diverse national and international clientele. This work involved close collaboration with Directors, Producers, and Production teams to guide the strategic selection of filming locations, directly contributing to the achievement of each project's visual and narrative objectives.
LOCATION SCOUT
My job is to focus on the initial, creative phase of a project, identifying potential sites that align with the Director's concept and the script's specific vision.
Core Role: To find and present a diverse range of location options that fulfill the Production Designer's and Director's creative requirements.
Conduct extensive research for suitable locations, often based on specific aesthetic or practical criteria.
Photograph and meticulously document potential sites, creating detailed presentations for the production team.
Liaise with property owners and local contacts to gauge interest and availability.
Essential Skills: A keen eye for visual detail, strong research capabilities, and effective presentation skills.
LOCATION MANAGER
I assume oversight of the entire location life cycle, from securing the chosen site to Managing all on-site activities and ensuring wrap-up protocols are met.
Act as the primary liaison between the production company, the community, government agencies, and property owners, ensuring all filming activities are legal, safe, and within budget.
Key Responsibilities:
Negotiate contracts and secure formal location agreements/releases.
Obtain all necessary filming permits from city, state, and local agencies.
Manage complex logistics, including coordinating crew parking, traffic control, and facility usage.
Oversee the location budget and ensure the site is restored to its original condition post-filming.
Essential Skills: Superior negotiation, organization, and problem-solving abilities; strong communication skills; and comprehensive knowledge of agency protocols and union guidelines (e.g., Teamsters Local 399 regulations).
Experience includes delivering superior service and leveraging extensive knowledge of regulatory protocols spanning commercial, residential, city, and state agencies. This ensures operational efficiency and facilitates the realization of all creative goals by applying a comprehensive blend of artistic acumen and business expertise.
